One real estate transaction, at one of the hardest moments of my life, showed me the power of true advocacy—and quietly reshaped my future.
My father’s sudden passing was a pivotal moment in my life—for many reasons. One of the unexpected gifts it gave me was clarity. He died in an accident, and suddenly I became painfully aware that the home we were living in was too far from everything that mattered in an emergency. Ambulances would take longer to get there. Hospitals were far away. Even my children’s friends felt too distant.
Several of them lived in Fawn Lake, a beautiful, gated community I never seriously considered. But after my dad’s accident, it felt like exactly what my family needed. When I saw a house for sale there, I took a leap and contacted my REALTOR® to help me buy it.
That experience changed everything. Working closely with multiple agents to buy my new home and sell our old home showed me the importance of a diligent REALTOR®. A great agent is truly a gift, and a careless one can do real harm. In that moment, the idea of getting my license and serving people at a high level suddenly became very clear.

The funny thing is, real estate had already been quietly circling my life. My husband, Dan, and I spent years finding the right home to raise our two children, Conor and Ashlyn. When they were born, I left my job as a high school English teacher to stay home with them.
Being home with the kids, I realized I needed something to keep me connected and engaged with adults and friends. At first I edited other people’s writing, but something clicked when I became a direct sales representative for Pampered Chef. I hosted dinner parties, cooked for both friends and strangers, shared the tools I used, and the products sold themselves. I loved the connection and knew I could thrive in relationship-based sales.
In 2016, we moved to Spotsylvania—to a lovely house at the end of a dirt road. I loved the nature, the quiet, even the wild animals. I still love this town deeply. But when my dad died, everything shifted. He was my hero—and honestly, many people’s hero. A Vietnam Veteran who once got lost in the jungle and somehow found his way back. A police officer in the 1970s, serving some incredibly dangerous neighborhoods. A business owner. The coolest man I’ve ever known.
His death taught me never to take people—or time—for granted. His legacy inspired me to become the best version of myself. I even added a cardinal to my logo because he always pointed them out, and since his passing, I see them constantly. They represent him and are a symbol of luck.

After my dad’s passing, we moved to our new home in Fawn Lake to be closer to our community. Shortly after, COVID hit. Everyone was home all day, and I urgently needed to get out of the house. Real estate called me. I remembered my grandmother, who was a successful REALTOR® at a time when most women didn’t work. She raised seven children while building a career she loved.

Inspired by my family, I got my license in 2021 and never looked back. This career lets me stay active, show up for my kids—now teenagers—drive them to practices, and work in something I truly believe in. Real estate gave me a way to serve and connect through work that feels deeply meaningful to me.
What sets me apart from other agents is the genuine care I have for my clients and the responsibility I feel toward the trust they place in me. I understand that buying or selling a home is deeply emotional, so I go above and beyond to make the process as supportive as possible—whether that means helping to paint, pack boxes, or simply being present when things feel overwhelming. I treat my clients’ as if they are family.
I regularly work with out-of-state clients and am happy to offer virtual tours, detailed walk-throughs, and honest feedback. When evaluating a property, I point out the good, the bad, and the ugly—along with practical solutions—so there are no surprises. I’m naturally detail-oriented and take pride in staying on top of the transaction, ensuring everything is organized and handled correctly from the start. I manage this personally so I always know where we are in the transaction. That attention to detail allows me to price homes accurately, research the market thoroughly, and guide each deal thoughtfully, always with my clients’ best interests at heart.
Sincerely,

Alison Lemon
